Our Little Miller Family

My Recipe - using Frenchs mustard

Okay, so here is a secret family recipe that my mom used to make. I do not have exact measurements, it's sort of a "throw it together and see what you get" kind of recipe.

You will need
1 package italian meatballs (I like the turkey ones that you can find in the freezer section)
Grape jelly
BBQ sauce (whatever your favorite is)
French's mustard (spicy or original!)
white or brown rice

What you do
Put the meatballs in a 8x8 or 9x13 baking pan (I use glass) and cover with bbq sauce. Spoon grape jelly over bbq sauce (I usually put a generous amount of both - Ira likes his sauce!). Then put a small amount of French's mustard. Stir together and bake at 350 for aprx 20-25 mins (just keep an eye on them. They are done when the sauce is thinned and meatballs are cooked. Some brands take longer to cook than others, just read what the package says).

While your meatballs are cooking, cook some white or brown rice.

When finished, serve meatballs over rice!

Super easy and quick and delicious!

Here's a receipe that looks good for a new twist on broccoli - especially for those kids who love cheesey broccoli! I think you could use ff/lf broccoli soup and skim milk for a healthy alternative!

Broccoli Cheddar Bake
Prep Time: 10 min. Bake Time: 30 min.

1 (10 ¾ oz.) can CAMPBELL'S® Condensed Broccoli Cheese Soup
¾ cup milk
1 1/3 cups (2.8 oz.) FRENCH'S® Original or Cheddar French Fried Onions
1 1/3 cups shredded Cheddar cheese
4 cups cooked broccoli cute

1. MIX soup, milk, 2/3 cup French Fried Onions, 2/3 cup cheese and broccoli in 1 1/2-qt. baking dish.
2. BAKE at 350ºF for 30 min. or until hot. Stir.
3. TOP with remaining cheese and onions. Bake 5 min.

Makes 6 servings
Tip: Use 1 bunch broccoli, cut up and cooked or 16 oz. pkg. frozen broccoli cuts.

Thanks to the wonderful people at Mom Select and AEG ThemeStar we were able to go see Thomas & Friends Live! On Stage: A Circus Comes To Town. The show was great! Liliana loved every minute of it! We also got to take Juliana with us, which made it so much more fun for us all! Even though she doesn't obsess over Thomas like Liliana, she still enjoyed the show! I was impressed that the girls sat still for the entire 90 minute show! It was very entertaining! Liliana loved the music and singing along with the songs she knows! It was well worth the trip down to Charlotte! We are looking forward to seeing another Thomas Live show next year! For those who don't know, Liliana is THE biggest Thomas the Train fan! She wakes and sleeps Thomas. She loves all the trains and has a wishlist for those trains that she doesn't have! Seriously!

In June Tweetsie Railroad has a day out with Thomas! Liliana has been looking forward to it for months (and is already waiting until "Thomas comes back from Sodar Island again"!) She was every bit as amazed as I was hoping she would be! It made our season passes worth every penny we didn't have to spend on them ;)

Tweetsie Time again!

Tweetsie opened last weekend! Liliana has been waiting for this day since last October! She was so excited to go. It was rainy, but she and I went Sunday for a few hours! She loved it as much as last year! She is excited to be able to take "brother" and "Daddy" this year!

Hotel Stay and the Riverbanks Zoo

Ira and I took Liliana and Juliana to see Disney on Ice in Columbia, SC last week. We left Graves to play with Amen and stayed in a hotel in Columbia and then took the girls to the zoo the next day. It was a long, quick trip, but the girls really loved the Disney show and zoo so it was totally worth it! Both girls LOVED the giraffes the best and riding the little train!

April is Dollar Days at Grandfather Mountain. This is was our third annual trip! Liliana loves going and Graves really seemed to enjoy it this year too! We were sad that we couldn't see a few of the animals because the exhibits were being worked on and it was really windy, so the bridge experience was short, but we had a great family trip nonetheless.

This week Juliana and Amen are staying with us while Jeremy and Crystal are in Portland, OR visiting Tim and Jessey. We're having a blast and these kids are seriously wearing each other (and us :) ) out! We've got a pretty good system down, 4 meals at a time, flip-flop baths, put them all in bed with 4 blankets and 4 cups of milk. I must admit, it's fun!

Today Danny and his girlfriend came up to Boone, so we went to play at the playground at a local school (avoiding the chaos that surrounds our big park on a beautiful day!). The kids had a blast. Graves absolutely was a mad-man climbing up the stairs to the slide. Juliana's favorite thing was bubbles and popcorn. Amen played with a ball. And Liliana liked trying to climb the play equipment and swing with Daddy. I'm bummed that the weather is not going to be as nice the rest of the time they are here.

Liliana started taking ballet classes at the local parks and rec in February. She loves it, until it's time to go. She cries every time that I leave her, but she's getting better and crying less and less. She doesn't dance much while she is there, but she does learn a lot. She comes home and dances all over the place. I'm hoping that she'll at least participate in the recital in May!

Graves was jealous that he couldn't go out in the snow. It was soo cold though.

This was about two weeks ago. There hasn't been a lot of snow at any one time, but it has snowed a lot! The poor school kids have missed more than a dozen days of school, and it's only the second week of February! We still can expect snow through April! Liliana absolutely LOVES the snow! She gets soo excited when she realizes it's snowing or has snowed overnight. She runs around the house singing "I love snow, I love snow." (Thanks to The Backyardigans!) Graves was super jealous that Daddy and Liliana went out to play in the snow, but it has been very cold (in the teens and 20s) most of the time when we've had snow. This day it was so cold that Ira and Lili only stayed out about 10 minutes.

Well, it's official. Graves is a toddler! He turned one on January 24th! It is hard to believe that my little baby boy is 1! The year really went by fast! I still need to upload birthday party pictures, but this was on his actual birthday. We just hung out at home with the family.

Since Graves' birthday was not supposed to be a good outdoor day, I took Liliana, Graves, and Macyn (one of the kid's friends who I keep a few days a week) to the park. They had blast. Liliana loved playing in the bits of snow on the ground, Macyn loved everything, and Graves loved playing with the mulch (what a boy) and climbing on the slides. This was the first time Graves got to play at the park!

The Sunday after Christmas we decided to get together with the Hodges clan before Randy went back to California. We met everyone at Chuck E. Cheese in Hickory. Liliana and Juliana both LOVED Chuck E. and all the rides. Liliana's second favorite thing (next to Chuck E.) was getting tickets. She didn't care about playing the games, but she wanted the tickets :) Silly girl. Graves and Amen enjoyed wandering around looking at all the people. Our Christmas celebrations started with a big holiday party with our mom's group! Thank you HighCountryMommies for the great party and wonderful gift!

As you can see it was a wonderful night full of lot of people. The kids had some crafts to do and we had tons of great food. It was definetly a lot of fun! Graves enjoyed walking around the room people studying and Liliana had a blast with her friends!

It's been a while

I haven't updated in a while. Life has been busy. Liliana and I both had a nasty stomach bug last week, that consumed our week. It's been a busy month. Nothing terribly exciting, just busy.

Liliana is getting very excited about her birthday coming up. Both of her older cousins have fall birthdays, so she went to their parties and she started talking about her birthday. I can't believe in just over a month she will be 3!! The 2's have finally caught up with her. She is one stubborn little girl! But sooo sweet on the flip side! She says some very funny things and I really should write some of them down. She loves to talk on the phone (when she is in the mood), although when she gets excited to tell something most people have a hard time catching what she says. She is really looking forward to going to see Juliana tomorrow (sorry everyone else is second to Juli, although Grandpa is a close second!).

Graves is doing tremendous! He is really mastered walking and now mostly walks, and rarely crawls. He loves his sister and gives her the biggest smiles. He really really wants to keep up with her. He has learned how to react to her, which is kind of funny I have to admit. If Liliana takes a toy away from him or has something he wants, he sure lets her know it! He's "almost" sleeping through the night (finally!) - I'm really hoping that the pattern continues! Teething hasn't helped this goal though. He cut his 8th tooth last week. Graves is officially in double digits. He turned 10 months old on Monday!

I will try to do better about updating. I have so much going on right now.

One Last Trip to Tweetsie in '08

Liliana and I made our final trip to Tweetsie last Sunday before they closed for the season. We'll miss our fun Sunday trips. It was a lot of fun getting to spend some mommy/daughter time this summer. I'm already looking forward to next year! Liliana is too I'm sure! She has been wanting to go to Tweetsie all day long today. It's hard to explain that they are closed.

Liliana and I went to Madison's 8th birthday party on Saturday. It was at Claire's in the mall. Liliana had a blast being girly with Maddie and her friends. They all got make-up on (yes, even Lili - can't tell, can ya?) and their nails done. They got to wear tiaras during the party and Aunt Susan took them out to ice cream afterwards. Liliana got a special treat as well. She got her ears pierced! She wanted it done and Ira and I decided that it was fine since she asked for it to be done. I think it looks cute! I have to admit, I'm a little excited about picking her out some cute earrings for her Christmas stocking too! Wonder if I can find Thomas earrings? Hmmm.....

The kids and I went down the mountain Tuesday to go and see Jeremy and his family. Liliana absolutely loves Juliana. Those two are the funniest little girls ever. They are a sight to see! Graves and Amen I am sure will be equally as amusing soon. Right now they kind of look at each other. Unless Crystal picked up Graves, then THAT made Amen pretty mad. He wasn't too keen on sharing his mommy!

I know it hasn't been long since we lost Sadie, but I'm such a dog person - when the opportunity to get this dog came up, I just couldn't pass him up.

This is Sampson. He is about 4 years old and a Golden Retriever (mix?). He is HUGE. He weighs about 100 pounds and his shoulders and Lili's shoulders are level to each other. He is soooo very sweet. He loves to play ball and eat treats and be loved on. He is very careful not to knock the kids over when he walks past them. He's just an all around great dog. Liliana loves him!

On Saturday morning Liliana, Graves, and I got to take Madison to her cheerleading at the high school. It was a lot of fun. Liliana really enjoyed watching Madison "dance". Maddie did a great job! We hope to get to see her cheer again before the season is over!

Two of Liliana and Graves' favorite people in the whole world are their cousins, Madison and Lucas. Today we got to have them over after school, they played, ate dinner, and then it was time to rest. Of course Liliana was just tuckered out and couldn't resist the sleepiness, so she fell asleep quickly. Madison and Lucas wanted to stay up, but Aunt Niki said it was a school night and they had to go to sleep. Madison was second to give in - and Lucas wasn't far behind. We really enjoyed spending the afternoon/evening together.

Well, 8 months and a few days, but I forgot to take his picture last week. So here is Graves at 8 months old. What a handsome little man. He is so happy, most of the time and into absolutely everything. He is trying to walk. Crazy! He has completly mastered cruising around furniture and will step from one piece of furniture to another. He can also walk if he holds onto one of our hands - but doesn't need two hands anymore. He is just an amazing little boy.

I think Liliana's favorite day of the week is Wednesday. So many fun things happen on Wednesdays. Daddy is home from work most Wednesdays and Liliana loves spending time with her Daddy. We also go to our weekly playdate at the coffee shop. Liliana loves spending time with her friends and getting a smoothy at the coffee shop. I took these pictures this morning. I can't believe how grown-up she is looking. It's hard to believe that she will be three in just a few short months!

Liliana put her baby to sleep on the floor and then stole my pillow so that she could go to sleep with her baby as well. She sung her some songs and put her to sleep...then she was off and going again ;)
